Co-op & Practicum Courses
Co-op and Practicum courses provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience while earning course credits, apply the knowledge learned in the classroom, explore various career options, and begin building a resume. In the past, students in Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies have worked as:
- Probation/Parole officer with the Kentucky Division of Probation and Parole
- Probation Officer with Federal Probation
- Court Designated Worker with the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts
- Caseworker or Correctional Officer in Federal Correctional Institutions
- Youth Service Worker in The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice
- Pretrial Officer with the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts
- research assistant for the Kentucky Criminal Justice Council
And this is just a sample of the opportunities available. Students who have participated in the coop program indicate that they have a better understanding of the materials learned in the classroom and that they are better prepared to enter the workforce.
To be eligible for participation in the undergraduate coop program you must have at least a 2.0 grade point average, have completed 30 semester hours of credit, and have the approval of the co-op coordinator within Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies. You can earn a maximum of 6 hours coop credit toward your degree (3 hours toward the A.A). You must work 80 hours for each academic credit.
